Theme: Triangles

We will use this theme as a grounding place for demonstrating how to do Culturally Responsive Teaching within a context of decolonizing, social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. To begin ... please think about your own cultural background, lived experiences, and historical connections. What do triangles mean to you? Where do they appear in patterns, architecture, design, historical events, metaphors, or the natural environment? Please write one or two paragraphs about your connection to triangles. This writing can be very practical and personal to you and your life. Or this can be about a more abstract concept or at the societal level. Please feel free to include related images, videos, or artwork. We ask everyone to post their writing about triangles in our canvas page before the beginning of the residency. During the residency we will spend time thinking about the learning community that you work with or will be working with as an educator. What is their developmental levels (or grade level)? What are their cultural backgrounds? What languages do they speak (or do their families speak)? What do you know about their lived experiences? How are your students or participants connected to “triangles?” We will ground this work in Dr Geneva Gay’s theory of Culturally Responsive Teaching and Dr. Antonia Darder’s Sphere of Bicultural Development.

Antonia Darder.
